Online gambling legislation in New Jersey is moving ahead at a fast pace. In April the Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee passed some online gambling legislation, and the New Jersey State Assembly has now passed a similar bill.

A number of lawmakers and gambling industry leaders in New Jersey feel it is extremely important that their state be the first to legalize online gambling, especially ahead of some of the competition, such as Nevada, Iowa, and California.

Brick and mortar casinos in Atlantic City are operating at greatly reduced incomes at this time, having shown much reduced revenue over the past three years, at least in 35 months out of the 36 months.

This week, Lock Poker signalled its intention to expand operations after announcing  it was to leave the Merge Gaming Network and acquire the assets of the Cake Poker Network in order to launch its own network called Revolution Gaming on June 1st.

The move will likely see Lock Poker keep its current identity on the Cake Poker Network, while the Cake Poker Room will still carry on but as a skin. Explaining the companys decision, Lock Poker CEO Jennifer Larson commented:

Merge was a great stepping stone for us but we have outgrown them.

Caesars Entertainment has come under fire by Canadian gambling authorities for a promotion offer which threatened to “cannibalize” Caesars Windsor in Ontario.

The group was slammed for sending out promotional material to Ontarians, asking them to “make their presence known” at the group’s new Horseshoe Casino Cleveland across the border. To encourage members of Caesars Total Rewards program to visit the casino, they were offered $5 free to play slots.

The move was criticized by the Finance Minister of Ontario, Dwight Duncan, who said that the promotion was a “boneheaded move”.

The message of his displeasure was passed on to Ontario Lottery and Gambling which, in turn, informed Caesars Entertainment.

Being a betting man, I’d wager that two years from now the joy and happiness Cantor CEO Lee Amaitis showed at the opening of the Palms book last Friday isn’t repeated at the Sahara.

“I would love to be at the Sahara. That would be big,” Amaitis said of the planned refurbishing of the Sahara, which suspended operations earlier this year. “I am interested in everybody in the state of Nevada.”

The word recession doesn’t apply to Amaitis, whose family continues to branch out from the hub at the M resort. The Palms marks the seventh property to come under Cantor management and perhaps the most ambitious investment to date.
