On December 14th, a robbery occurred at the Bellagio in Las Vegas that resulted in approximately $1.5 million in chips being stolen from the casino. Most of these chips were in $25,000 denominations. The culprit was caught on Wednesday when 29-year-old Anthony Carleo was arrested and charged.
Mr Stay at the Same Casino You Robbed and Sell Stolen Chips on TwoPlusTwo Forums Guy
Oh, but it gets better folks.
How did this guy get caught you might think to yourself? Well, this “real man of genius” decided that maybe it was a good idea to private message people on the TwoPlusTwo forums in an attempt to sell the chips.
Why did he steal the chips? This guy owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in gambling debts. So what does he do? Steal from the highest profile casino in the world, and in a large enough denomination so that nobody will be able to easily use them. Good job buddy.
How much did police recover? $900,000 in chips. That’s right folks. This guy managed to get $600,000 worth of chips either sold off or used in some shape or form. I wonder if any TwoPlusTwo’ers bought chips that they will not be able to cash in now.
Oh, and here is the best part in my opinion.
He was staying at the Bellagio when he was caught.
Are you serious!!! How did THAT go down? Did he just pay in cash? Was he somehow not suspected by staff at Bellagio?
It was claimed that he has lived the high-roller lifestyle some before, but you would think that after the robbery he would have been a little more cautious. This is the part of the story I would like to know more about. Guy robs your casino, and he winds up staying there a month and a half later when he gets caught.
I was thinking of giving Carleo the “Dumbass of the Month” award, but considering the way things went down in this scenario, I seriously doubt that anyone is going to top him, at least in the poker-related world. As such, I dub Anthony Carleo the official “Dumbass of the Year.”
Congratulations.
