As many of you know, Pokerstars is now processing withdrawals for US players. In fact, if you login, you will be forced to cash out your balance. I received my small PokerStars bankroll to my bank account on Friday. I only had $35 online as I took the other couple grand off months ago. However, it did make me think about my early days of online poker.
I made my first deposit on PokerStars back in 2005. It was the 2nd site I had put money on. The first was PartyPoker. The main reason I put money on there was to try my hand at some of their tourneys. I found that I liked Sit-N-Gos a lot better than MTTs and that is what I primarily stuck with during the biggest part of my time on the site.
PokerStars was a great site for me to work on mixed games. In fact, my former poker mentor Bill Boston suggested that I play the Stud Hi-Lo games on the site to improve my game. I grinded out the Sit-N-Go Stud 8 games for a while and before long, I was cashing in live events for the game.
After transitioning to primarily writing about the game instead of playing full-time, I spent less and less time on the site. About the only time I played was to play in mixed games when they were not available on Full Tilt or if I wanted to play in multi-table Stud 8 Sit-N-Gos.
Who knows whether PokerStars will ever be allowed to return to the US market. If not, it was fun knowing you. Hopefully they will be permitted to negotiate a return once poker is legalized. They were a solid site and it would be a shame to never be able to play on there again.
Of course, Im looking forward to the day we can play on PartyPoker again. Here fishy, fishy, fishy.
