At the end of December, the Department of Justice changed its stance on the Wire Act of 1961 and said that it only applies to sports betting, which means the online gambling and online poker field is wide open. Now, to understand some of what were seeing on ABC News and other news media - the DOJs reversal didnt make online gambling legal in the United States. They just made it not already illegal on a Federal level. That means that states can pass online gambling legislation without violating federal law. Sheldon Adelson is best known for his role as chairman and CEO of Las Vegas Sands Corp. Earlier this week, he spoke out as an opponent to the legalization of online gambling. As you can imagine, this upset many people, including those interested in playing online, affiliate marketers, and rival companies.
Recently, Adelson met with American Gaming Association CEO Frank Fahrenkopf to speak about the potential downfalls of the legalization of online poker.

While many European countries are looking for ways to ban online gambling, Hungary is looking for a way to make it available it all of its residents. Currently, all gambling activities are run by the state monopoly, Szerencsejáték Zrt, which only provides players with a few online casino games. The new law will allow foreign online casino developers into the country, so players will have more choice in the matter.
As such, the new legislation that Hungary is drafting will disband the monopoly, welcoming developers from other countries to enter the market. T
